Thank you for your thorough reply! I felt like I had to make some solid decisions, and having very little to go on from my own research decided to work backwards from a modern Oxford professor's salary and give him 2,000 a year. Since Oxford provided lodging and food and servants for professors, as I found, I'm also engaging a small house in a less fashionable area of London. Someone helped me pick out a neighborhood and everything! It might be too much, I guess, but to some degree I suppose I'm just going to give in and play to fantasy, haha. I mean, he gambles and drinks half of it away, anyhow. 😛 I really really really do appreciate you taking the time to reply so thoughtfully, thank you so much.
