Anyone else find themselves eagerly checking the mailbox for the post even though it's too soon and you have no idea what's coming and from whom? Just me? I LOVE LETTERS SO MUCH, I can't contain myself with antici.......
I am currently reading Emma and there are huge long sections on writing and receiving letters and "the wonders of the modern postoffice." I find it all heavily relatable right now. There's one particularly delicious passage where the young poor ingenue, Jane Fairfax is having a very polite but vehement battle of wills with the wealthy Mrs. Elton about whether it is bad for Jane's health to take a daily walk to the post office. Mrs. Elton overbearingly Insists it is "No trouble at all for our men to do it." Shy Jane insists back that it is her favorite part of the day and brings her much joy for thr anticipation of a letter from a friend. Another delightful passage is the chatterbox Mrs. Bates going on and on about how "Jane always crosses her letters but her hand is so neat, we can read every word"
